Clary sage (biennial to perennial)
Salvia sclarea
Clary sage, otherwise known as Muscatel sage, is an imposing medicinal and aromatic plant. It has greyish, felt-like leaves that emit a slightly tart, grapefruit-like aroma. It’s purple flowers are also very decorative. Previously, this sage was added to wines giving the expression Muscatel wines (Muskateller-Weine). Height reaches up to 150 cm.

Growing instructions
Sow from June to July in small pots or directly into the field. Come August, transplant into a sunny place at a distance of 50 ✕ 50 cm. As a biennial, it blooms in the second year. Harvest the leaves from April to June, harvest the flowers for tea and spice at full flowering.
