Red-flowered Buckwheat, Takane Ruby (Portion)
Fagopyrum esculentum
This rare and striking variety enchants with its ruby-red blossoms, which are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. 'Takane Ruby' buckwheat combines ornamental beauty with practical value in the garden. As a pseudo-cereal, it is naturally gluten-free and can be used to produce flour.
It also makes an excellent green manure, growing rapidly to cover the soil, suppress weeds, and prevent erosion. It reaches about 60 cm in height and flowers from July to October. This unique variety originates from the high plateaus of the Himalayas, where it has been traditionally cultivated.
From April to August, sow directly into the field by broadcasting or in rows 10–15 cm apart. It even thrives on poor soils and high altitudes.
