The 'Spongy' sponge gourd, also known as Luffa, allows you to grow your own sponges!
If you let the fruits dry after harvesting, the flesh separates and reveals a fiber system that forms a sponge. A plant worth trying in the garden.
The plant can reach 300 cm. It can be grown in pots or in open ground.
Sow sponge gourd seeds indoors in a seedling pot to a depth of 0.5 cm. The ideal germination temperature is between 20°C and 25°C. 4-6 weeks after sowing, plant the seedlings outdoors or in pots, leaving a space of 30 x 50 cm between plants.
