Brassica rapa var. rapa subvar. capifera
These turnip roots boast a with a mild flavour and violet collared skin. It is a very productive field vegetable with varied uses. Eat fresh or turn it into sour turnips by processing them like sauerkraut.
Growing instructions
Sow from mid-July to mid-August in rows 30 cm apart. Later, thin plants out to 15–20 cm between individual plants. Because of their later planting date, turnips work well as a crop following early vegetables. The harvest takes place in September to November.
