The light green leaves of Moroccan spearmint have a peppery taste and a slightly pungent odour.


This variety is commonly used in Moroccan cuisine to flavour dishes such as mint tea, salads, tajines and desserts.

Growing instructions

Climate conditions

The spearmint "Moroccan tea"is an easy plant to grow. It prefers sunny or semi-shady locations, with well-drained soil. It can also tolerate shady areas, but its growth will be less vigorous.

Sowing

We recommend sowing mint in pots to encourage germination. Fill 8 cm-diameter pots with sowing compost and pack lightly. Place 4-5 seeds and press lightly. Cover with a thin layer of soil and water.

Planting

Plants can be planted in the garden in spring or autumn. Space plants 15 cm apart. Water regularly, especially during the first few weeks.

Care

This variety an easy-growing, low-maintenance plant. You may wish to add fertilizer in spring and summer, during the growth period. Don't hesitate to prune scented mint to encourage growth and prevent it from becoming overgrown.

Use

Spearmint can be used for cooking, herbal medicine and decoration. It has a fresh, minty taste that goes well with many dishes. It can also be used as an infusion or essential oil. Fragrant mint is also used in phytotherapy for its digestive, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties.
