Growing instructions

Climate conditions

Sunflowers are sun-loving plants that require a lot of sunlight and high temperatures to grow properly. They grow well in temperate climates.

Sowing

We recommend sowing sunflowers in pots to accelerate their development at the beginning of the growing season and to protect them from slugs. In April, sow 1-2 seeds per pot with a minimum diameter of 8 cm and water regularly until germination.

Planting

About a month after sowing, sunflowers are ready to be planted outdoors. Using a gardening trowel, dig a hole the same depth as your pot. Remove the sunflower from the pot and place it in the hole. Fill in with soil, tamp down and water generously. Sunflowers do not tolerate frost, so check the weather forecast before planting.

Care

Sunflowers need to be watered regularly, especially during dry periods. We recommend fertilizing with a solid fertilizer a few days after planting to promote good growth. Sunflowers are resistant to pests and diseases, but they can be susceptible to rust and powdery mildew. If you want to harvest the seeds, you will need to protect them from birds with a net.

Use

Sunflowers can be used to decorate the garden, but they can also be used to produce oil or seeds. Sunflower flowers are edible and can be used in salads or desserts. Sunflower seeds are a good source of protein, fiber and vitamins. You can also leave the sunflowers in place at the end of the season to provide food for birds.
