Capuchin peas

A particularly well tasting, filling pea, which almost sled into oblivion. It grows up to 2m tall. Flowers and pods are violet. The grains can be used fresh and dried (soup peas).

Sprinter from Marbach peas

Very remarkable variety: early, small (60-80cm), it always carries pair-wise fully filled pods. The peas are very sweet and the yield is huge. The variety was selected in the 50ties from Mr. Loher from the Rhine valley in St Gall. It was selected from can-variety. His daughter Mrs. Manser saved in for the new millennium and has it given to us for future cultivation.

Swiss giant snow peas

Medium-early, about 150 to 200cm (!) tall variety with violet flowers and large, light-green, tender sugar peas. Harvest from mid of June to beginning of August. A well-proven landrace, which is also an ornament of the garden.

Sow for middle of March to middle of April: Row distance 60cm (2 rows per bed). Lay out about 8-10 grains every 60cm. Position the grain in a plate-shaped manner and stick a 2m tall peg in the centre. Planted in rows, the growing plants need to be tied up with cords about every 25cm.

Winter sugar pea snow peas

This old strain from the country side blooms in violet colour and is very productive. It has a long harvest season with an excellent quality of the husks. Height up to 200cm!

Sowing from middle of October. At a row distance of 60cm (2 rows per bed) create a circle every 60cm with 8-10 seeds, put seeds 5cm into the soil. Plants hibernate in the youth stage. In spring time tick a 2.5m tall peg in the centre of each circle. Not suitable for heavy and wet soils. The harvest starts in the end of May and lasts until end of July.

Asparagus-pea asparagus-pea, winged pea

An almost forgotten vegetable, which hopefully will have its renaissance! The ground covering plants spread over the full bed and the deep red papilionaceous flowers radiate out of the lush green leafage. Harvest the square-winged legumes at a young age (about 3cm long). Preparation like snow peas/sugar peas. A delicacy for the eye and the palate.

Plant in April in rows with a distance of 50cm. The space in between can initially be used to cultivate radish or lettuce. Continuously harvest the young husks until autumn.
