buttercup family, crowfoot family Aquilegia sp.

Common columbine Columbine

With its light flowers and soft pastel colors, the columbine reminds a flying bird, giving it its name. Like many other members of the Ranunculaceae, the columbine is toxic and should not be eaten.

Sow in trays in February, plant outside after the last frost. Alternatively, sow directly into the garden from April on.
