Orange (annual) safflower
The safflower is a ancient culture plant, which on the one hand is used as a natural dye for textiles and food. On the other hand, one can prepare an excellent oil from the seeds. With its scruffy, bright orange flower heads it looks good in original flower bouquets. Height up to 70cm.
Sowing dates: March to April. At a row distance of 30cm, plant 2 seeds every 20cm. Seed must be protected from birds. Sunny, rather dry location with nutrient-rich soil are of advantage. Who wants to collect seeds for oil, should cultivate the plant in the foil tunnel, let it fully mature and then thresh it.
