Foxtail millet, Highlander pearl millet

(Sectaria italica). The foxtail millet is a heirloom crop from Indo-Germany. The bronze-coloured seed pods are so heavy, that they bend towards the ground. Nowadays it is mostly used in ornamental gardens. It is a popular autumn flower. In case the dried seeds don't find any usage in the kitchen, the feathered corn pickers take over voluntarily. Height up to 150cm, stable.

Directly sow in the spot in May. Thin out to 30cm if necessary. Foxtail millet loves sunny locations and copes well will drought.

Sorghum, great millet pearl millet

(Sorghum bicolor). It is very impressive, it is pretty, it is prospective. The up to 5m tall maize-like plant carries its inflorescence high up towards the blue sky. It originates from Africa and was brought to America with the slaves and nowadays it is cultivated around the globe. Its drought resistance will become more relevant due to the forecasted shortage of water. In our region very popular as an ornamental plant.
