Tree spinach Tree spinach
Tree spinach comes from the same plant family as common spinach, however, it grows up to 2.5 metres tall. The young, tender side shoots and leaves deliver a tasty leaf vegetable throughout the summer. The stocky plant with its reddish leaves is an eye-catcher in the garden. Cook up the leaves and tender shoots, or eat fresh leaves on salads.
Sow in March directly into the garden bed or into seedling trays. Transplant seedlings in April at a distance of 60 ✕ 60 cm apart. Plant in intervals with intercropped varieties of early vegetables to maximize space.
