Fennel, Autumn fennel
Foeniculum vulgare var. azoricum
Autumn fennel yields large white bulbs with healthy, strong foliage. It’s tender and mild flavour liven up dishes without overpowering them. As the name implies, autumn fennel is only suitable for planting in mid-summer for autumn cultivation. So it is a great addition to spaces in the garden that did not get used, or that had an early crop that you already harvested. If you have some bare ground come July—autumn fennel is there to help!

Sow from June 20 to July 20 in rows 40 cm apart. These sowing dates should be observed strictly. A springtime culture is not possible with this variety. Thin out seedlings to 20 cm. Fennel is grateful for diligent weeding and irrigation. Applying mature compost greatly promotes growth. Harvest your fennel crop in September. Attention: Ripe fennel endures slight, but not severe, frosts.
