It is related to the nigella (Nigella damascena). Its unusual (very touching) dark blue and large flowers turn into star shaped capsuled after intense visits from bees. These are thoroughly dried. They decorate pre-Christmas flower arrangements. Height reaches 60–80 cm. Flowering occurs from July to September.
Sow in April directly into a sunny spot in the field. It likes to sow itself.
