A cucurbit plant of the special kind. The bottle shaped, bulgy fruits are eaten young as a vegetable (harvest August/September). The mature wooden fruits (harvest October) serve as vessels, music instruments and for decoration.

Sowing from middle of March at sunny locations. Put 1 seed per 10cm pots. Bed out from the 20th of May at the base of the compost heap or in nutrient-rich soil. (Attention: slug damage!). Distances 80-100cm. Mulch layer beneficial. Storage at 15°C recommended.
