Household gardners love this butterhead lettuce. The shape of trout lettuce leaves is similar to romaine lettuce. In this variety, the outer leaves have dark, red spots while the inner ones have yellow to red dots. It is not only decorative, but also has a crisp texture and fine taste.
Sow from March and onwards into seedling trays. Transplant at the 3–5 leaf stage. Transplant from April to May to the open field at 30 ✕ 30 cm spacing. For autumn crops, sow in July. Lettuce responds well to mature compost and regular watering. It is great for intercropping with other vegetables.
