Supports for climbing plants - 05. March 2021

Many plants such as peas, runner beans, or tomatoes grow high and need support. This allows you to optimise the use of space but requires a little bit of DIY. Here are three methods that facilitate the cultivation of these plants:

Branches are the ideal support for peas and mangetout. Plant them in a circle and plant a branch in the middle of each circle. The main branch serves as a support, and the small side branches will allow the peas to hang.

Alternatively, you can also stretch a nylon or metal net between some posts, which will also allow the peas to grow upward.

For runner beans or tomatoes, choose long solid poles. By attaching them to form a tepee, you will give them much more stability. Runner beans require a height of at least 2 metres.
