Create support for young plants - 27. March 2019
Vertically growing plants such as peas and beans need to be supported in order to grow well and to facilitate the fruits harvesting process.
You can provide support in different ways:
- Stakes, these can be recycled stakes or part of woodland branches, these have to be straight and sturdy. They just have to be placed behind the pea plant and this will start climbing on it.
- A nylon mesh or an old chicken wire can also be used. Attach it on two poles and locate it close enough for the peas to be able to reach it.
- A teepee shaped trellis is an attractive way of staking peas or beans in the garden.
- Metal rods can also be uses in the same way of the nylon mesh.
